Why is it important for you to feel like you matter to other people?

That's a great question and one that researchers have been wondering too. What they found through studies is that children who grow up feeling like they don't matter, tend to develop insecure or avoidant attachment styles. They also tend to become highly self-critical and prone to depression and anxiety.

When we don't feel like we matter to others, we tend to not matter to ourselves either. People who feel like they don't matter,
tend to engage in self-harm and suicide ideation.

In fact, Pete Davidson said in an interview that he thinks about suicide, but he's never done it, because he has a mum and sister. He feels like he matters to them and that's what has kept him alive.

Mattering, matters, and it saves lives.
