Irrational beliefs are patterns of thinking that are unhelpful, illogical or inconsistent with your social reality. There are four types of irrational beliefs and the first one is “demandingness”.

This is a primary belief system and takes the form of absolute thinking you'll hear it expressed with words like “have to”, “should”, “ought”, “must”, or “need”.

An example is … “I need everyone to like me”.

A more helpful or rational way of thinking is in terms of preferences … “I would prefer if everyone likes me, but I understand that won't always happen”.
